On October 4, 1997 over 3 million Christian men descended on Washington DC for Stand in the Gap: A Sacred embly of Men, a day of personal repentance and prayer for our nation. The footage here was all shot as they prayed and sang and were inspired by incredible Christian speakers. I shot all but a few segments of this footage. The most impressive shot (one I did not shoot) is near the end of the video. It is an aerial view from above Lincoln Memorial looking down the Mall toward the Capitol. The mass of men, packed in like sardines, extends from this side of the Washington Monument to the Capitol and from the buildings and streets on each side. I am still emotional when I watch this footage…Evidence that GOD IS AT WORK in the men of our nation!

Glory to God!

Question: 3 Million? really?

I was there with my …
I was there with my son, who was 14 at the time, and my now late father-in-law. A powerful day that I will remember all of my life–from the sound of hundreds of thousands of men singing at the top of their voices, to the quietness of the breeze while we were on our knees praying. God’s Spirit filled us and encouraged our faith, even to this day. Thanks for posting this video, it brought a lump to my throat and tears to my eyes. Semper Fi!

I was there, and …
I was there, and this made me thirsty for the fulfilment of 1st Thessalonians 4:13-18 when all the believers in Christ Jesus will be gather together from all ages and from all places and glorified in our new eternal bodies free from aging, disease, pain and hunger and most of all gathered in His glorious and radiant presences and worshipping Him and prasing him.

i was there when i was a boy. I look back on it a laugh actually. I don’t believe in a group like promise keepers that would parade a sacred religion, while firing off flat waves of excitement which ultimately die.

I was in DC on this …
I was in DC on this day and to this day 11 years later it still moves me to tears. It was such an extrodinary experience it only is second to my marriage! Even though it is 11 years later it still moves me like I just came back from there last weekend! I wish more people would have experiences like this istead of always trying to take Jesus and his message out of the everyday and persecuting me for my beliefs.

I was there. But 3 …
I was there. But 3 million might just be a bit over what I would say was represented there. Probably less than 1 million, but the real number doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things.

I’ve added photo links on the right under the description so that you can see the difference. This of course is uming that the million man march had the numbers that were claimed in the media.

That number was …
That number was based on the photo comparison of the “million man march” that took place a few months before that. The number for that event was listed at 1 mill – 1.2 mill and they did not nearly fill the first half of the mall and there was no one in the side streets nor under the trees. if you saw the two picts side by side you would see the huge disparity.
